Kilmore’s Agriculture
Growing Strong

Traditional sheep and cattle grazing enterprises still occupy some seventy per cent of the Kilmore district’s land, with various other small-scale animal and horticultural enterprises becoming increasingly important.
The good soils, moderate climate and reliable rainfall makes the Kilmore district a vital area for future sustainable rainfed agriculture. The close proximity to markets and selling centres also augers well for the future of agriculture in the district.
A diverse range of contractors and consultants also provides a valuable community resource. These have a vital role to play in assisting existing and new farmers to maintain the amenity of the countryside, through good farming practices.
The fact that the district can support two strong pastoral houses, who conduct regular stock sales, is indicative of agriculture’s continued sustained strength in the Kilmore district.
